Oh, Migraines!
I am having a migraine attack as I write this. I’ve had chronic migraines for as long as I can remember—an almost daily battle that has shaped my life in ways I never imagined. I’ve canceled plans, missed opportunities, and tried every possible remedy—doctor visits, medications, dietary changes, ice packs, and more. Some things helped momentarily, but the pain always returned.Befriending the Pain
Over time, I learned to accept my migraines as a part of me, but I refused to let them define my life. Instead, I started exploring ways to shift my focus away from the pain. That’s when mindfulness, art, and meditation became my refuge. Zentangles, doodles, and painting have given me an outlet—a way to channel my discomfort into something beautiful.
Art can Heal
When I create, I find a sense of flow and calm, befriending the pain rather than fighting against it. The rhythmic strokes of my pen and brush help me be present in the moment, easing the grip of the pain on my mind. Mindfulness meditation has also been a powerful tool, helping me breathe through the pain and find peace even in the midst of an attack.I still use essential oils like peppermint and lemon as part of my routine, and they provide some relief. But more than anything, I’ve discovered that art and mindfulness help me approach my migraine journey with a sense of grace.
Mindful Art Therapy
This realization has inspired me to dive deeper into the connection between art, mindfulness, and healing. I’m currently taking a course in art therapy and mindfulness life coaching, and I hope to help others—especially fellow migraine sufferers—learn how creative expression can transform pain into something meaningful.
If you’ve ever struggled with chronic pain, I’d love to hear your story. Let’s explore how we can turn our challenges into art, healing, and purpose.
